The Chicago River is one of the world’s great ur The Chicago River is one of the world’s great urban rooms. It simply takes your breath away. While the quality of the architecture along the way is uneven, it doesn’t diminish the power of the space it defines. The Chicago river walk (begun in 2001 and continues through the present), designed by @sasakidesign and @r_barc is one of those tactical urbanist triumphs that changed the role of the river in the daily lives of Chicagoans. It created new pedestrian paths and public spaces to linger, connect with the river, and admire the city. The heart of the 1629 Market project is Mazzola Ga The heart of the 1629 Market project is Mazzola Gardens, a new pocket park designed by @cmgsite The heart of Mazzola Gardens is a BART vent structure, wrapped in an oval security wall clad in a veil of ipe. But the stairs are the Pièce de résistance: freestanding sculptures of white precast concrete and sumptuously ground terrazzo.
