On a 23-foot-wide sliver of land with a 120-foot western exposure, we designed 14 private microhomes above a continuous ribbon of ground-floor microretail units. A folded terra-cotta rainscreen protects the residences from the harsh western sun, while a delicate steel marquee shades the retail along the street. The facades maintain the proportions of a Victorian row house, with slender bay windows anchoring the corners.
