Nestled within National Forest on a steep slope of Mt Rose, we designed a new house to offer refuge from the elements, while taking in sweeping views of the Virginia Mountains and city lights of Reno. Two linear, steel-clad volumes grow from the land; the living wing extends gracefully into the trees; the other hunkered into the terrain with peaceful bedrooms. Where the two volumes come together, a spa with sauna, hot tub and pool provide a relaxing and social gathering space.
