201 Guerrero

San Francisco, CA

201 Guerrero

San Francisco, CA

Responding to the lack of privacy and open space on corner lots, we organized 201 Guerrero’s three residential units vertically rather than horizontally, so each can capture daylight from far above street level, and gave each unit its own roof garden. Retail space activates the corner below, with garages tucked behind. The corner dwelling is a copper boomerang extending over the property lines while staying within allowable bay-window contours.

Two new infill buildings, each with two new homes. A modernist blend of the two patterns that exist in the neighborhood: crisp, flat-roofed structures set at the street wall, tall gables set back and up-hill into the block.

It seems the footings of Warehouse #6 were originally placed on grade which was incrementally washed out by the bay, then shored up. A slice of the original Douglas fir piles are visible.
